Announcing the Spanish CLEL Bells

COLORADO – Colorado Libraries for Early Literacy is pleased to announce a newly formed committee that will present CLEL Bell Awards to winning Spanish-language titles in 2025. A complement to the English CLEL Bell Awards, the Spanish Bells will select five outstanding picture books produced in Spanish that model the five early literacy practices PLAY, READ, SING, TALK and WRITE.

The inaugural Spanish CLEL Bell Awards Committee members are:

  • Carolina Saldivar, Denver Public Library (co-chair)
  • Melanie Borski-Howard, Boulder Public Library District (co-chair/advisor)
  • Lilian Bucio, Longmont Public Library
  • Kate Fitzpatrick, Longmont Public Library
  • Carina Oliva Quiroz, Arapahoe Libraries
  • Rosina Revello de Garcia, Boulder Public Library District
  • Karen Walker, Jefferson County Library

In addition to the CLEL Bells criteria, the committee will consider books that meet the following guidelines:

  • Originally published in Spanish
  • Published as a bilingual Spanish and English title
  • A quality Spanish translation from an originally English title

Nominated books will be announced in 2025 and winners during the 2025 CLEL Conference in autumn.
