Storytime Take-Home Pages

Many libraries hand out simple take-home pages to their families after storytime. These pages might include the titles of books related to that week's theme, the words to songs and fingerplay's used in that day's storytime, a simple craft or activity idea to try at home, or a picture to color. These sheets help parents and caregivers "bring storytime home" and provide more opportunities for sharing and talking with their children--just the type of verbal interactions that can build language skills.

These sheets can also include a information about early literacy, either general tips or a few sentences about a particular skill.

2 pages, with a picture to color, ideas for families to try at home, and words to a couple songs.

1 page, information about the vocabulary skill, why it is important, and ideas to try at home.

Half sheets, information about an early literacy skill, instructions for that day's storytime craft, plus another idea.

Early Literacy Take Home Sheet: Front and Back
1 page, front and back, with how that day's storytime books support early literacy, an early literacy tip for parents, and a fingerplay from next week's storytime.

Grow a Reader
Multi-page handouts on dozens of storytime themes. Each handout has many activity ideas, rhymes and songs, and "Literacy Connections" that caregivers can make when reading specific books. The handouts were developed to go with the Grow a Reader book and manipulative kits circulated by Pikes Peak Library District, but the handouts are also available separately online.

Storytime Themes at Perry (OH) Public Library
From this page on the Perry Library website, families can print out sheets that correspond to storytimes they have attended. The sheets include books read in storytime, more book ideas for that particular theme, songs & rhymes, and "Early Literacy Extras," ideas for parents to do at home with their children.
